Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1928. He liked to draw, color, and cut out pictures. His mom liked that he was being artsy and would give him a candy bar every time he finished a page in his coloring book! (I wish my mom would have done that!) He studied art in college and got jobs drawing pictures for magazines. Andy loved pop culture… movies, music, foods, and other stuff that was popular at the time. In the 1960’s he decided to start painting what he loved. He painted and drew many pictures of Coke bottles and soup cans. He also painted pictures of  famous movie stars. Andy started using a way of printing called silkscreen so he could make lots of copies of his art to sell. He loved to experiment with different ways to paint, draw, and take pictures. Andy didn’t just paint though, he worked on commercials and movies too. He died February 22, 1987 when he was only 58 years old. Andy Warhol was one of the most important artists of pop art and is remembered today for his cool paintings of everyday stuff.
